Basic Knowledge of Eyelashes ①

Basic Knowledge of Eyelashes ①

As a professional eyelash artist, the basic knowledge of eyelashes must be understood and mastered.

First, the structure of eyelashes

Eyelashes are divided into two parts: hair shaft and hair root. The length of eyelashes is about 5~10mm. The number and length of eyelashes vary from person to person. The upper eyelashes are about 100~150, and the lower eyelashes are half. Generally, 5 roots fall off naturally a day, and grow about 0.1~0.18mm per day. The most active period for eyelash growth is PM10:00~AM2:00, which coincides with the period of strong hormone secretion. Maintaining adequate sleep during this period can promote the regeneration and growth of eyelashes.

Second, the use of eyelashes

1. Protect the eyes. The eyelashes on the upper and lower eyelid margins resemble rows of guards, arranged on the edge of the eyelid cleft. Eyelashes are the second line of defense for the eyes.

2. If foreign objects such as dust touch the eyelashes, the eyelids will reflexively close to protect the eyeballs from external invasion. It has the function of shading, preventing dust, foreign objects, and sweat from entering the eyes and protecting the cornea and eyeballs.

3. Eyelashes can also prevent ultraviolet rays from harming the eyes.

Third, the growth cycle of eyelashes

The growth cycle of eyelashes refers to the cycle of alternate growth of eyelashes. The growth cycle of eyelashes is divided into three stages: from the growth (i.e., active period) through the degeneration period to the resting period. Eyelashes have the shortest life span in the hair, with an average life span of 3 to 6 months, which is constantly renewed. During the shedding period of eyelashes, 2 to 5 eyelashes a day. Eyelash growth rate: 70% in the first month, 90% in the second month, and 100% in the third to fourth months. The number and texture of eyelashes vary from person to person, and so does the eyelash growth cycle. Eyelashes grow and fall off repeatedly. For example, it is not that the pores of the eyelashes that fall off today will grow new eyelashes tomorrow, but that new eyelashes will grow after a period of time, after sufficient nutrients have been accumulated. While some pores are recuperating, new eyelashes grow in the other pores, so the total number of lashes looks similar. A correct understanding of the growth cycle of eyelashes and a clear explanation to customers before grafting can avoid related problems caused by the growth cycle.
